Door with Mackintosh roses
After visiting our atelier in Bolsena a couple of times, Marta and Pierluigi decided to commission us a door with Mackintosh roses for their home in Rome.
Chorles Rennie Mackintosh (born in Glasgow in 1868 and died in London in 1928) was a Scottish architect, designer and painter.
He is considered the most important exponent of Art Nouveau in the United Kingdom as part of the so-called Glasgow movement.
Chorles Rennie Mackintosh developed his own style characterized by decorative floral motifs made with delicate curvatures: an example is the motif of the Roses which are named after him.
In a process like this, it is important to take care of the varying intensities of the petals that make up the roses to avoid creating a flat and uninteresting work. For this door with Mackintosh roses, we used a single antique sheet of mouth-blown glass for the red, which presented a beautiful variation in tone from dark orange to vibrant vermilion red. The green of the leaves, the border, and the two circles at the bottom are also made of blown glass, while we used very light yellow cathedral glass for the background.
As with all our swing doors, we strengthened the panel by placing a 6mm diameter iron bar in the center, hidden above a lead came of the same thickness. This prevents the glass from bulging or deforming over time due to the movement of the door.
We personally installed this door with Mackintosh roses in Rome and fully satisfied our clients. Commissioning your personalized door from us is easy; discover other stained glass for doors created by IKO Studio.
