Glass Painting Course: Learn to Paint with Grisaille

Our glass painting course begin with a brief theoretical introduction to the composition of grisaille, enriched by historical notes on its use in stained glass. Next, together with the students, we will prepare the material to be painted on glass. This can include a drawing made by hand by the student or an image found online and adapted to the desired size.

Mixing the pigments

Students will be taught how to mix the pigments correctly, obtaining the right consistency for painting on glass. Next, they will practice drawing their first lines, learning the techniques to make them precise and harmonious. Once the lines are completed, they will be shown how to correct any imperfections and perfect the details.

Once the students are satisfied with the final result, the glass will be fired in the kiln to fix the work, so to completing the first phase of the process.

Shading

The second phase of our glass painting courses is dedicated to shading. Students will learn how to apply a uniform layer of pigment to the previously painted glass. Using stiff or semi-soft bristle brushes, they will then be guided in carefully removing parts of the pigment to create the desired shading. This technique enhances the design, adding depth to your work.

Silver stain and transparent enamels

Students will be taught the technique for coloring glass using silver stain and transparent enamels, a fundamental step for coloring small surfaces of glass that is usually transparent. With our glass painting course, students will learn to mix enamels and silver yellow with the appropriate mediums.
