Il padre, che aveva dedicato grandi cura ai due bambini, fece voto di destinarla alla vita monastica, cos\u00ec all\u2019et\u00e0 di dodici anni fu mandata a Roma assieme al fratello per compiere gli studi classici, ma entrambi restarono profondamente turbati per la vita dissoluta che vi si conduceva. Benedetto per primo decise di ritirarsi in eremitaggio. Scolastica, rimasta unica erede del ragguardevole patrimonio della famiglia, rifiutando ogni attaccamento ai beni terreni, chiese al padre di potersi dedicare alla vita religiosa entrando in un monastero vicino a Norcia. Il padre, pur soffrendo per la separazione dalla figlia, ricordandosi del voto fatto, accett\u00f2 la sua decisione. Qualche anno dopo segu\u00ec il fratello a Subiaco e quando Benedetto fond\u00f2 l\u2019abbazia di Montecassino, volle seguirlo e ai piedi di Montecassino, a circa 7 km a sud dell\u2019abbazia, fond\u00f2 il primo monastero del ramo femminile dell\u2019Ordine Benedettino.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scholastica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scholastica<\/a> was likely the twin sister of Benedict of Norcia. Born in Norcia around 480 AD, her father was from an ancient Roman family of senators and he was the Roman Captain of the region of Norcia. Scholastica\u2019s mother, the Countess of Norcia, died immediately after giving birth to twins. Her father, dedicated himself to raising the two children and they were destined to a monastic life. At the age of 12, she was sent sent to Rome, along with her brother, to complete their classical studies. Troubled by the desolate life he was following, Benedict decided to to follow the life of a hermit. Scholastica remained the family\u2019s sole heir, but she refused every attachment to worldly goods and asked her father if she could dedicate her life to religion in a convent close to Norcia. The farther, deeply upset by the separation from his daughter, accepted her decision and gave his permission. Several years later her bother following in her footsteps, began life as a monk in the monastery of Subiaco. This beautiful abbey comprises of a 19th Century building which was once the Bishop\u2019s summer villa. The convent\u2019s chapel is the most recent construction.
